Should i cut my hair shorter ?

im tan , tall (about 5,5) , brown eyes, and have super thick , long, brown hair . i want to cut it shorter like shoulder length but im scared it will look bad since its thick and i dont want it to poof out, what do you think ? please help ! thanks(:
