Rubber bands for braces hurt!? ?

I just got the rubber bands today and at first it didn't hurt at all. Suddenly, the rubber bands and my teeth began killing me! I took a Tylonel but it didn't do any good. Plus, swallowing pills isn't my forte. Is there anything that I could possibly do to ease this nonstop pain without the use of medicine? I really need anyone's help at all and thank you to anyone who answers this. Serious answers please.
