What drove Napoleon Bonaparte and what did he yearn for?

What drove him from the beginning? What did he want to achieve? When he became emperor he didn't lust women, wine and other "fun" things. Instead he worked day and night nonstop, why? Is it because he had "Napoleon complex", that he felt inferior and he needed to prove his worth? Did he want to bring France back to former glory and make a France empire out of Europe?
