Making a 2 tiered round cake?

I am making a round tiered cake and was going 2 put fondont icing from shop on it, do i need suppourts as its a smalll cake. I made the bonnie butter cake recipe it came out quite thick before baking should it of? Also what should I stick the fondont down with something when decorating it?
